  • Eva Longoria was "very young" when she married for the first time and admits to her part in the marriage ending.
  • In terms of her own life, the Texan-born actress did not relate to her sensual character on "Desperate Housewives" as much as she did her co-star Marcia Cross's role.
  • She got married a third time in an intimate but star-studded ceremony and became a mother and stepmother.

Eva Longoria was in her twenties when she made her first trip down the aisle in 2002. It was early in her career, and she was still finding her way in the entertainment industry.

This was before she would become a household name as Gabrielle Solis in "Desperate Housewives." That marriage to "General Hospital" soap star Tyler Christopher only lasted two years, and she has been open about her culpability in its demise.

Reflecting on her first marriage four years later, she conceded that she was "very young" when she went into the union with Christopher, a "lovely man," and did not yet know who she was. She said outright:

"I was a terrible wife."

Not much is known about their short marriage. They were divorced in 2004, and Longoria began dating San Antonio Spurs basketball player Tony Parker that same year.

Both Catholic, the couple was so dedicated to their relationship that they went for counseling before tying the knot. When they got hitched in July 2007, they "were ready."

As a married woman, she identified more with Marcia Cross's Bree Van de Kamp in "Desperate Housewives," the domestic goddess, than her character, a high-maintenance former model and cheater. She explained:

"I'm very domestic, constantly sewing, cooking, and cleaning. I cook every day. I'm a great chef, a big foodie, and I hate it when Tony eats out."

Once, during a photo shoot in their home, the star cooked for her husband in full glam, high heels, and a Versace gown in between set-ups. Unfortunately, this domestic bliss did not last forever.

After their divorce in November 2010, news broke that Parker had cheated on her with Erin Barry, the wife of his teammate Brent Barry. Talking about that period in her life in April 2011 on CNN, she said that it was "heartbreaking," adding:

"It was disappointing because I had such an identity in being Mrs. Parker and being a wife. So when that is taken away from you, you go, 'Who am I?' And it was hard."

Longoria insisted that she "would never speak ill of [Parker]," and she appreciated their seven years together. She explained how despite her being a devoted wife, she and Parker "wanted different things."

Eva Longoria's 'Taxi Light' Was Not on When She First Met José Bastón

When she was first introduced to José "Pepe" Bastón by a mutual friend, the conversation was pleasant but they didn't really connect as they were both still getting out of relationships.

Six months later, they were reintroduced, and sparks flew. The next day, they bonded further over a four-hour lunch. The "Flamin' Hot" director nicknamed him "Mr. Fancy Pants" for his impeccable fashion sense.

She revealed on Access Hollywood in 2016 that now they would look at each other and ask, "Where have you been?" Asked why they only connected on the second meeting, she said:

"You know, like in 'Sex and the City' they go, the light wasn't on on the cab."

What she appreciates about Bastón is his kindness and that he doesn't dim her light. She also admires him for being proud, supportive, and intelligent. Longoria adds that Bastón "hates the red carpet" and the limelight but he is supportive of her and what she needs to do.

Bastón is the president of the Latin media brand Televisa and has served on the board of Univision. So, while he is in the industry, he is not on her side of the business, which she likes. Longoria sees him as her "equal." She revealed :

"He is probably one of the first men I've dated that has been older and established and, basically, a grown-up."

Bastón proposed with a large ruby ring during a trip to Dubai on December 15, 2015. Reports that they were getting married in Acapulco, Mexico, were likely a misdirect. They said their 'I dos' at sunset at the executive's Valle de Bravo lakeside home 88 miles outside Mexico City.

A photo of the newlyweds was featured on the cover of Hola magazine, and details of the intimate affair came out on social media. Longoria shared an Instagram photo of their wedding bands and her place tag, "Eva Bastón."

Her friend Victoria Beckham designed her form-fitting gown and posted a photo of them together, and Melanie Griffith uploaded a fireworks video. "Desperate Housewives" co-star Vanessa Williams serenaded the couple with her ballad "Save the Best for Last."

The 80-person guest list of their May 2016 nuptials included Ricky Martin, Penélope Cruz, Katy Perry, Mario Lopez, and Amaury Nolasco. Bastón brought three children into the union from a previous marriage to actress Natalia Esperón.

It Is 'Never Too Late' for Eva Longoria to Appreciate Her 'Amazing' Spouse

"I know I'm a little late for #NationalSpousesDay," Eva Longoria wrote in January 2021 on Instagram. "But it's never too late to appreciate someone as amazing as him," she said about Bastón, adding:

"Ugh, how did I get so lucky? Te amo"

The "Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico" presenter's representation confirmed in December 2017 that the couple was expecting their first baby together.

Their son, Santiago Bastón, was born in 2018. The actress and director posted "Mi vida" (My life) with a photo of her son in March this year.

The actress was third-time lucky when it came to love. She waited until she was ready before exploring this connection. As yet, she has not called herself a "terrible wife" this time around.
